RIP ms gertie

computer mouse, originally uploaded by ebbandflo_pomomama.

I'm very sad to announce that ms gertie died this evening. She wasn't alone, but took her last breaths in my hand as Wee Guy stroked her fur.
It was all very sudden and we're incredibly shocked. Just last night she was rolling around happily in her exercise ball.
Gertie - for someone so small you have left such a huge mark on our hearts.
RIP little girl.

released

click here to view in all its glory

At last ... I've set the Mail Chimp campaigns free.
They've been caged within my dashboard for a month, at the mercy of my tinkering. But now they are free to move around the interwebs, driven only by simple syndication aka. RSS from the Blackberry Artist's Society blog.
Fly, you lovelies - fly!

friday forte: all change

hatted, originally uploaded by ebbandflo_pomomama.

This week I accepted not one but two job offers. More on these later as I grow into my roles and manage my time.

But of course it means changes round the homestead. Early June is an insane time of year to think about paid work; summer vacation starts in three weeks and I only have summer camp booked for four out of the ten that the Wee Guy will be let loose.

I think we can do it. Wee Guy's keen on going to one more camp and mr ebb needs to block off some holiday time. I've almost cleared the bulk of my volunteer projects and streamlined the process for the rest. I'm back to making month-long menu plans, and hey! it's summer - eat your salad!

I think we can cope, and I say 'we' because when mum goes back to work, the whole family has to adjust.

But at the start of summer??

oh my and some salty chocolate chunk goodness

tunnel of grub

Oh my! I may be late to the party but I've discovered my favourite delicious and beautifully laid out magazine, Edible Vancouver, is available online. I'm only just recovering from the shock of finding that I can get my hands on copies of it for free, locally, and now the digital edition beckons.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out the loooooooong list of distributors and I'm sure you'll find a local pusher. Although the digital edition is pretty smart I really do advise getting your hands on an actual physical copy - you will be severely turned on to its sexy layout and food porn. The food photography is mouth-watering and the paper quality divine - smooth but with enough tooth to flirt with the fingertips, not too matte and equally, not glossy. It screams high quality from every page.
And it's free - how?

Anyway, I mentioned maybe posting some recipes yesterday.
An all-in-one lamb hotpot and something sweet.
Well, the lamb recipe is all in my head - basically, roast a lamb joint or even shanks if you can get them without selling your first-born (still reeling with shock at how expensive sheep is over here) on a bed of tomato sauce (maybe a bought jar of the stuff or make your own), chickpeas, root veggies (parsnip and carrots going in my dish) and whatever else would taste good. Slow roast - I'm trying the slow cooker this time; oven roasting works too.

The sweet recipe can be found on p.18 of Spring's (issue 28) Edible Vancouver ... it involves pecans, chocolate and sea salt ...

midlife monday: munchable

munchable, originally uploaded by ebbandflo_pomomama.

So i missed a midair changeover and one of my balls came crashing to the floor this morning. I'm not too sad though as I don't think it was for me anyway. In an odd sort of way is once again pointed me in the right direction by showing me what I don't want.
But life goes on.
Solo parenting for a while.
The sun shone today.
Meal plan for the month accomplished.
Little steps as usual.

This week's delight will be a slow cooked meal-in-a-pot of lamb with chickpeas, veggies and tomato sauce. Other than that, we're eating up single portions from the freezer and making salty choc chunk bars.

Maybe I'll post the recipes etc tomorrow.
Maybe not.

what is one hundred?

PicMonkey Collage

The Blackberry Artist's Society exhibition celebrating Port Moody's Centennial year begins at the Port Moody Library today. Each of the artists featured has interpreted the theme in their own way and in their own favourite medium.

My pieces of jewelry each include a one hundred element, whether it's one hundred beads, the length of wire used or even a number of stitches or time spent.

The exhibition runs until the end of the month. All pieces are on sale through the gift shop.
